Goddess Kalratri - The Goddess of Terror



Goddess Kalratri also called Maa Kali is the 7th incarnation of Goddess Durga. She is fervently worshipped on the 7th day of Navratri.


  • She is the most ferocious form of Maa Durga. This form of Maa Durga destroys all demons, ghosts and negative energies.
  • She signifies perfection and helps her devotees to attain perfection, happiness, and purity of heart.
  • She is believed to be the destroyer of time and death too. Thus her name is “Kaal Ratri”. She is the power of the darkest of nights.
  • Devi Kalratri removed her outer golden skin, taking up a dark complexion slays the demons Shumbha and Nishumbha.
  • Having the “Shubh” or auspicious power within her fierce form, she is also called Goddess Shubhankari.
  • She makes her devotees fearless. She protects her devotees from evil powers and spirits.
  • She dresses in white representing peace, and thus the color to be worn on the 7th day would be white.
  • She is associated with Sahasrara Chakra (Crown Chakra), thereby bestowing knowledge, power and wealth on her sincere devotees.

And it came to the moment when she has to show her most fierce and terrifying form. Her appearance symbolizes death and darkness - the destroyer of ignorance, wicked & evil and brings forth the havoc on vile and villainous.


So, who could be she?


As we observed that the ancient demons now exists in a very disparate form and can be personified as men who are accused of dowry deaths, child infanticide, rape, trafficking, domestic violence and discrimination against women at work.


And so does their weapons of annihilation have changed over time.


To confront, challenge and conquest these criminals, a Kali is reborn and resides in every house. Equipped with weapons like education, healthcare, empowerment & economic freedom, she slays her demons causing havoc as her name itself specifies death.


While she punishes evil making us realize that sorrow, pain, decay, destruction & death are inevitable and every mortal will have to go through it, she never fails to reward virtuous and those who come to her asylum.


She is an icon of power and strength. And so, we would like to identify and acknowledge a few women who dare to do differently - to walk beyond the realm of ordinary and settled the debts by bringing the culprits to their destiny.

When she was designated as the Kollam Commissioner on June 2019, there was a pending case of sexual harassment & assault. She did the arduous task of catching the extradited culprit by managing a continuous touch with agencies like Saudi Interpol, Indian Embassy, International Investigation Cell, Crime Branch and Police Headquarters.
